DNA Sequencing

Welcome to the UCSD Cancer Center DNA Sequencing Shared Resource!
Known for our high quality services, we thank you for choosing our facility to meet your needs.

Below are five simple steps to help you start and achieve the best possible sequencing results. Please read through all of the information provided. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

What to do if this is your first time Sequencing with us:

Step 1: Register Primary Investigator

Is your principal investigator a Cancer Center member? Non-Cancer Center Principal Investigator information must be registered before utilizing Shared Resource facilities.

Step 2: Create a user account

Now that you have registered your Principal Investigator and read the pertinent information, please register yourself as a user.

Step 3: Prepare samples for sequencing

Make sure your sample is ready for sequencing by preparing quality templates and primers.

Step 4: Submit order online

Complete the online order form. Check the pickup option on your order form if you wish to have your samples picked up. Pickup is offered free of charge to all labs on the main UCSD campus, and to any lab that has access to the Hillcrest or SIO shuttle routes. For Hillcrest and SIO labs, samples are picked up from respective main campus shuttle stops from 11am to 12pm. Pickup is not offered to off-campus labs.

Step 5: Wait for pickup or drop off samples

Label your tubes, then drop off your samples or have us come pick them up from you.

Step 6: Retrieve data

When your data is ready, you will receive an email notification. Within two business days is the usual turnaround time. The account information for your data access will be sent to you via email after the first requisition. Use the information in the email to login and retrieve your data from our dnaLIMS server. If you are having trouble navigating dnaLIMS, additional information is available.

Step 7: Acknowledge the DNA Sequencing Shared Resource in your published paper.

In the event that your sequencing data is published, please include the following acknowledgement in your paper:

DNA sequencing was performed by the DNA Sequencing Shared Resource, UCSD Cancer Center, which is funded in part by NCI Cancer Center Support Grant # 2 P30 CA023100-23.

Such acknowledgement in your publication is very important for continuing NCI support of this shared resource.

Step 8: Come back soon!

In the future, remember us for all your sequencing needs!
